South Sudan, between Conflict and Statebuilding

Since mid-December 2013, South Sudan has been embroiled in a political, military and humanitarian crisis. Serious armed clashes broke out in the capital city Juba on 15 December and the ghting soon spread to other parts of the coun- try, bringing with it death, displacement and destruction. The South Sudanese government and the armed opposition have signed several cease re agreements, but these have failed to put a stop to the belligerent confrontations.
